We provide patients and families with information and tools that will prepare them for international travel. Care we provide is customized based on the locations and timing of travel. The travel medicine clinic constructs a careful plan for maintaining health and preventing illness and injury during travel. We work carefully with primary care providers to fully prepare children and their families for their trip. We recommend you contact our clinic as soon as you know when you’re traveling, and that the appointment be scheduled at least four to six weeks before departure to ensure that any needed vaccinations be effective for the trip.
Our experienced pediatric doctors and specialists are ready to serve you and your family.
Depending on where you or your child is traveling, certain travel vaccines can protect travelers from potentially life-threatening illnesses. These vaccines are recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization and the International Society of Travel Medicine. We will discuss the risks and benefits of every recommended vaccine to determine what is best for your family or child.
We provide medications to prevent malaria in certain travel destinations. We also provide medication to treat traveler’s diarrhea, prevent altitude illness and can help prepare you to care for other common conditions such as jet lag, ear pain and other travel-related conditions. We will also give you updated information on outbreaks and safety concerns in specific travel locations.
We offer same-day or next-day visits in our clinic for children who become ill during travel and require assessment by a pediatric infectious diseases specialist.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention works to protect America from health, safety and security threats, both foreign and in the U.S. Visit their travelers' health page for further information.
