Epilepsy

Spectrum Health’s comprehensive epilepsy program is West Michigan’s first Level 4 epilepsy center designated by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC). As a Level 4 epilepsy center, we offer the professional expertise and facilities to provide the highest level of medical and surgical evaluation and treatment for patients with complex forms of epilepsy, including those with uncontrolled seizures (i.e., intractable or refractory epilepsy). Our epileptologists and epilepsy neurosurgeons are among the most experienced in the field. Our specialists are pushing the forefront of epilepsy care through research, furthering the world’s understanding of this condition and the best ways to treat it. We offer outpatient clinics in Fremont and Grand Rapids.

First seizure clinic

  • Only dedicated clinic in West Michigan offering rapid follow up evaluation of patients initially seen in emergency room for first-time seizure
  • Patients have MRI and EEG followed by a comprehensive neurological evaluation by a fellowship-trained epileptologist
  • Most urgent epilepsy referral patients are seen within two business days
